Thailand is only among the top five honeymoon destinations of the world. With more than 1400 islands, this destination doesn’t offer much, does it? Well, let’s take a look –
- Little Variety of Islands
Thailand honeymoon packages to islands like Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Yao Yai are ideal romantic getaways for newlyweds, Koh Chang and Phangan are known for their full moon parties, Koh Racha Yai and Racha Noi are best for laid-back, quality beach time and the 130 islands of the tranquil Krabi are loaded with caves, virgin beaches and stunning landscapes. So yes, very little variety indeed!
- Boring Food
Sure there’s a wide range of the spicy, the sweet, the sour, the fresh, the seafood and the accompanying cocktails. The boring Thai food like Tom Yum Goong, Tom Kha Kai, Som Tum, Pad Krapow Moo Saap and Pad Thai are simply made from fresh fruits, vegetables, freshly caught shrimp, chicken cooked in delicious herbs and spices for a flavoursome menu.
- Not Ideal for Shopping
The thousands of stalls at Chatuchak weekend market, the Rod Fai night market for antiques and Pak Klong Talad for flowers in Bangkok, show how Thailand is not for shoppers of all kinds. The night bazaars across every town like Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, and Krabi further establish this point.
- Dull Countryside
Places up north like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Loei and Tak are surrounded by mountains ideal for visiting elephant sanctuaries, treks, picnics and hikes with an insight into true Thai culture aided by interaction with the native people. The hidden village of Sanghkhlaburi is a scenic, quiet home to Vajiralongkorn Lake with its Underwater Temple, Kra Teng Cheng Waterfall, Wat Wang Wiwekaram and Chedi Phutthakhaya temples. How dull!
- No Thrills
The only thrills available in Thailand are white water rafting in Northern provinces like Pai, Chumpon and Chiang Mai, scuba diving with whale sharks in the Surin Islands, scuba diving to coral isles and shipwrecks in most of the islands, kiteboarding in Phuket, Pattaya and Koh Samui, sky-diving in Bangkok and Pattaya, etc. Other activities include parasailing, jet-skiing, surfing, mountain biking, kayaking, wake-boarding and canoeing – only so much thrill.
- Luxury? Where?
From boutique hotels to five star accommodations and beach villas equipped with private pools, infinity pools, spa and uninterrupted panoramic views, luxury is hard to come by in Thailand tour packages. The option to rent entire beaches privately doesn’t help either.
- Party Elsewhere, Not Here
Why party here? It’s just clubbing, discos, rooftop bars for cocktails, ladyboy shows, cabaret shows, the naughty go-go trails, night markets, walking streets, live jazz music, Muay Thai live boxing shows, Phuket Fanta Sea, themed bars and so on.
Yes, this was a sarcastic take on Thailand tourism, which ranks high precisely because it’s mixed bag of fantastic experiences where there’s something unique for every kind of couple.
