10 Secret Places that are Worth Exploring in Andaman

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have both historical and ecological significance for India. The Nicobar group of islands cannot be easily accessed as they’re declared buffer zones for the Indian government to protect the delicate biodiversity and tribal land there. The Andamans continue to be India’s best kept secret. Here are 10 such secret places worth exploring in Andaman –

Radhanagar Beach, Havelock

Voted one of the best beaches in Asia, Radhanagar beach is beach number seven in Havelock islands. The white sands, crystal blue water, treetop restaurant and a gorgeous sunset are unparalleled to any other island. Most importantly swim with Rajan, the last living ocean swimming elephant at Elephant beach known for its water sports.

Kalapathar Beach, Havelock

Literally translating to black rocks, this is a loner’s escape in Havelock. A serene tropical landscape lined with dark rocks and hardly any people to crowd and intrude the peace, Kalapathar can be peacefully explored on bike or cycles.

Ross and Smith Island

Havelock, Ross and Smith Island are some of the many islands named after the British officers that administered here. Ross and Smith Island are two islands joined by a sand bar that can crossed over during low tide and home to the Olive Ridley, Leatherback, Hawkbill and Green turtles that can be spotted between October to March.

Long Island

Explore this beautiful small island lush with tropical forest, exotic marine life and mangroves. Take a jungle trek or hike to the virgin silver beaches along Lalaji and Mark Bays.

Guitar Island

Just off of Long Island is the less explored island shaped like a guitar. Breathe deep in your solitude with the beach and the sea with its several creatures, birds and crabs as your companions. Be sure to include it on your places to visit in Andaman.

Rangat

A haven for eco-tourism, take the Dhanninallah nature walkway, check out the Yerrata mangrove park and creek, Cubert Bay, Panchavati Hills and many more spots for an educational as well as refreshing exploration.

Wimberly Gunj Waterfalls

Located near Bamboo flats, close to Port Blair, these secret waterfalls located deep into the forest hardly see any footfalls. They can be easily accessed via roads or ferry especially from Chatham which can be customized into your Andaman tour packages.

Baratang Island

The elusive limestone caves, hiking through dense forests and boating through mangroves, this island is famous for its caves, mud volcano and yes, a Parrot Island.

Cellular Jail

A national memorial monument, this cellar jail is an eye-opening lesson in history that is not to be missed. Indian patriots were gruesomely tortured here by the British which still gives visitors the chills.

Chatham Saw Mill

One of the oldest and largest saw mills of Asia, a variety of woods, furniture and decorative pieces can be seen getting manufactured here, near Port Blair. Experience an inspiring and educational moment here watching hand crafted objects with dexterity.
