Hemis Gompa

This is one of the largest Gompa in Ladakh. It is completely managed by the Drukpa sect of Buddhism. Hemis Gompa is considered to be one of the wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh and is visited by millions of tourists each year.

Thiksey Gompa

This is one of the most beautiful Gompas of Ladakh. The structure and architecture of the Gompa resembles to the Potala Palace in Tibet. This monastery also lets you stay overnight in it.  It consists of a 12-storey building intricate and houses more than 500 monks. The Gompa comprises of a large and valuable collection of Buddhist books, journals, statues, scripts and paintings.

Likir Gompa

It was founded by Lama Duwang Chosje in the 14th century. It is believed that Likir Gompa is the first construction built by the Tibetan monks. You can also visit the museum inside this Gompa that showcases different variety of Tibetan relics.

Spituk Gompa

Founded in the 11th century, Spituk Gompa is home to hundreds of monks in Ladakh today. The Gompa has three beautiful chapels called as Stok, Sankar and Saboo. Each of these chapels comprise of idols, statues and various Tibetan scriptures.

Stakna Gompa

Stakna Gompa or tiger’s Nose is one of the smallest yet serene Gompa in Ladakh. Located on the banks of the Indus River, tourists can enjoy a stunning view of the Indus valley here. Tourists visit this place to take a look at the various paintings and idols of Buddha.

Alchi Gompa

Alchi Gompa is an outlet of Likir Gompa. This is also one of the chief and most believed monasteries of Ladakh. Its structure comprises of three sections, namely Dukhang, Sum-tsek, and the temple of Manjushri.

Phyang Gompa

This Gompa is situated at the hilltop and offers an absolutely delightful view of the surroundings around it. This is one of the most beautiful and impressive Gompa in Ladakh. It beautifully depicts the culture and heritage of Buddhism through its architecture and paintings.

Takthok Gompa

More than 55 lamas reside at this Gompa. The place is extremely famous for the amazing architectural styles and rocky walls and the holy throne of His Holiness Dalai Lama. The 108 volumes of Kandshur teachings of Buddha are conserved here.
