Kudajadri – Exploring the unknown

Do unexplored places waken your adventurous side? Does trekking through scenic waterfalls and virgin valleys excite you? If yes, a visit to Kudajadri should definitely be at the top of your must visit destinations. At a distance of 500km from Bangalore, Kudajadri is the right place to get your adventure dose. Whether its roaming around aimlessly, trekking or taking in the enthralling environment, this place will rejuvenate the stressed out city soul in you.

From different waterfalls and Sauparnika River to Kudajadri trekking route and wildlife sanctuary, there is a lot to do here. The road to this location is curvy with lush green scenery. Pollutions and noise trouble is almost zero here. Not only that, as it not a frequently visited spot, the tourist traffic is low here.

Sri Mookambika Devi temple – Trek and pray

While on the adventurous trek its best to take a short break and visit the Mookambika Devi temple. Just below the peak, a separate route leads to the temple. One would find an iron pillar of about 40 feet that is erected in front of Moola Mookambika Temple at Kudajadri. The devotees here believe that this is the Trishula used by goddess to slay the demons. The Devi is portrayed as both Shiva and Shakthi in the form of Jyothirlingam. She is seen here with three eyes and four arms, with the divine disc and conch in her hands.

Arasinagundi and Belakallu theertha waterfalls – Scenic delight

As one goes deeper into the forest, there are two waterfalls which are not just beautiful but also a pleasant treat for the trekkers. The Arasinagundi falls which is near Kollur, at the bottom of Kudajadri and another one called Belakallu theertha, which is near Mudur, Jadkal in Kollur.
Nagara Fort – Date with history

This is a small fort that belongs to the Keladi dynasty of the 17th Century. There are no remains of the fort but a small foundation known as theDurbar Hall of Shivappa Nayaka.

Kudajadri trekking route – Adventurous excursion

Kudajadri is famous for its trekking route that has been explored by quite a few trek lovers. This is an ideal one even for beginners as it is not too difficult and one would find hot food at the end of the route. Once at the top there is a provision for food and shelter with is run by a person. There is also travellers’ bungalow which is made available by Government of Karnataka for all those trekkers who come here.

Mookambika wildlife sanctuary – Deep into the forest

Visiting a sanctuary is always an adventurous activity. Driving through the dense forest with the sound of animals and birds around can make one sit up with excitement. This wildlife sanctuary is located near Kollur in Udupi district and around 125 km from Mangalore. Spread over 247 sq. Km, this sanctuary is divided into a core zone (114 sq. km), buffer zone (90 sq. km) and tourism zone (43 sq. Km).

The endangered cane turtle is also found at this sanctuary. The other animals found here are slender loris, lion-tailed macaque, sambar, chital, sloth bear, gaur, wild pig, sambar, barking deer, otter, porcupine, tiger and leopard. Check out our India holiday packages to have fun around the globe!
