With a bustling interaction of various cultures and ethnicities, a multitude of shopping and lifestyle avenues along with delicious Malay, Chinese, Japanese and Indian cuisine, the Lion City is a complete package and one of the top tourist destinations of the world. Here are seven such wonders of Singapore that will make you wonder why you haven’t visited it yet –
- Gardens by the Bay
One of the top places to visit in Singapore, the giant psychedelic trees in the Super tree Grove are better viewed in the evenings with the light and music show. Also experience the man- made Cloud Forest representing a tropical rainforest, Dragonfly Lake, Heritage Gardens, The World of Plants, Flower Dome, Kingfisher Lake and Bay East Garden.
- The Merlion
Singapore literally translates to ‘Singapura’ which means lion with a fish tail, symbolic of the humble beginnings of Singapore as a fishing village. Other than the original 8.6m tall icon, a 37m tall Merlion replica can be found on the Sentosa Island, which is also a good beach-side escape from the city. Take the escalator to the top of the statue for a panoramic view of the island and city.
- National Museum of Singapore
The oldest museum, this place houses the entire history of Singapore, it’s transformation from a simple fishing village to the metropolitan it is today, and provides guided tours that give visitors an insight into the native culture.
- Marina Bay Sands
With an observation deck called Sands Skypark, stretched out on top of the 57-storey triplets, the Marina Bay Sands resort has dramatically altered Singapore’s skyline. Singapore tour packages offer both – the plush accommodation in this casino property or a visit to the Skypark for a view of the city and the largest infinity pool.
- Singapore Flyer
A 30-min ride on this giant Ferris wheel reaching up to 165m in height with short waiting time, makes the Flyer a popular family activity for viewing the great expanse of a brightly lit Singapore. Other activities like a 6 dimensional motion ride, flight simulator, a fish spa and a super car drive can be found in the vicinity.
- Botanic Gardens
As an effort to protect the city’s old trees, the Botanic Gardens are home to several plant species displayed via multiple smaller gardens such as eco garden, eco lake, national orchid garden and bonsai garden. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra create a wonderful ambience via free concerts here.
- Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
Located near the mouth of Singapore River, these domes are an architectural wonder made of aluminium solar sunshades, spanning about 60,000 sq. and are one of the world’s busiest art centres continuously hosting music, dance, theatre and other performing arts shows, representative of Asian culture.
