Places To Visit in Gangtok, Sikkim for Honeymoon :
Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, is located 5,500 feet above the sea level and is the only place to witness the Khangchendzonga peak, the world's third highest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. People of Gangtok are warm and extremely conscious about cleanliness and discipline. Hence, while visiting the place, you must take care of these things.
Thanks to the Pakyong airport, it is now easy to reach Sikkim by air. However, the real charm of the place can be witnessed on the four-hour drive from Siliguri in West Bengal. Gangtok is also famous for its lakes, market and, most importantly, snowfall in the winter and spring season. Snowfall is usually the highlight of honeymoon in Gangtok.
Nathula Pass and Tsomgo Lake:
Situated on the east of Gangtok, Nathula Pass is located near the China border. It was a significant passage on the Old Silk Route between India and Tibet before it was officially closed in 1962. The border is protected with a lone barbed wire fence, and you can see the Chinese soldiers on the other side and Indian soldiers on this side. The special permit to go to Nathula Pass can be obtained quickly. The trip will make your honeymoon special.
Tsomgo Lake is also known as the Changu Lake and is 27 km from Nathula. It is at the height of 12,400 feet from sea level. It is a glacier lake which remains frozen until May. For a great experience here, a yak ride is all you need.
Yuksom and the Dzongri Trail:
Trekking on this trail leads to Mount Khangchendzonga. The route may seem rough to first-time trekkers. The trek is covered thickly with unspoiled forests, magnificent rhododendron gardens, mighty rivers and the beautiful national park en route. You can ideally take around seven to ten days to go from Yuksom to Goecha Peak and return.
Lachung, Lachen and Yumthang Valley:
Situated in the North Sikkim and 9,000 feet above the Tibetan/Chinese border, this valley enthrals the visitors with its dramatic scenery. Well known as a trading post between Sikkim and Tibet, it is now the base camp for the Rhododendron Valley trek from Yumthang Valley to Lachen Valley. The valley is filled with stunning monasteries, Yumesamdong (zero point), and one of the world's highest lakes, Gurudongmar Lake, situated 17,000 feet above the sea level. We bet this is one of the best places to visit on your Sikkim honeymoon.
Please note that North Sikkim is a restricted area for civilians, and you need essential permits to visit it.
Pelling :
It is a 3-4 hour drive to the west of Gangtok and provides a closer and unparalleled view of Mount Khangchendzonga. Apart from the mountain peak, monasteries are the main attractions of this place, along with the ruins of Rabdentse. This town was previously the capital of Sikkim and is known for being the ideal place for hiking, long drives and picnics at Khecheopalri Lake.
Zuluk :
Not many people know about this unexplored destination, but this tiny village is 10,000 feet above the sea level in East Sikkim. It was once a part of the Old Silk Route connecting the Kalimpong in West Bengal to Tibet. You can catch up-close views of Mount Khangchendzonga from Lungthung and Thambi View Point. Also, just a heads up, this valley road has more than thirty hairpin turns.
If you love to see beds of wildflowers, you should visit the place from August to September. If you want to visit during snowfall, book a Sikkim honeymoon package between January and April. Since this village is a military-controlled area near the Chinese border, Indian tourists require an Inner Line Permit to visit Zuluk, which can be obtained from the police station at Rongli, West Bengal.
