Named after the famous photographer and naturalist Jim Corbett, the national park was India’s first when it was established back in 1936. There were multiple name changes to the park since its establishment, until 1957 when it got its current name. Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, the park is one of the most beautiful locations in India with its natural flora and fauna. A Jim Corbett trip is an experience that one should have at least once in a lifetime. Being in the natural habitat of ferocious animals is both scary and exhilarating. The best way to experience the park is by booking one of the several Jim Corbett tour packages and doing all the exciting things in the national park itself.

Best Time to Visit Jim Corbett

Between November and February is the best time to plan a Jim Corbett trip as the weather is pleasant and it becomes easier to spot the animals. While the park remains open for most of the months of the year, the monsoon season from June to August is the time when it remains closed for most of the time,  Therefore, booking Jim Corbett tour packages during this time is not recommended. During the summer months, animals can be spotted and photographed near the water bodies during a Jim Corbett tour.

Things to do in Jim Corbett

There are a lot of exciting things to do at Jim Corbett National Park but the main attraction, and an activity that is included in all Jim Corbett packages is the Jungle Safari. One can choose from any of the three types of safaris, i.e. Jeep, Elephant or Canter Safari. The park is divided into multiple zones that have their own restrictions on how many vehicles are allowed at one time. Regardless of this, a Jungle Safari is a must-to-do activity in all Jim Corbett tour packages. River rafting is another exciting and thrilling activity that should be undertaken. Some fun adventure water sports are organized there as well. Another activity that should be included in a Jim Corbett trip is fishing in the catchment area of Kosi River.

Places to Visit in Jim Corbett

There are a lot of tourist attractions in Jim Corbett like Garjiya Temple, Corbett Falls, Corbett Museum, Dhikala, Durga Mandir, etc. The Garjiya Temple is located on a huge rock in Kosi River and during Karthik Poornima, a large fair is organised here. One of the most popular sights that should be included in Jim Corbett packages is Corbet Falls. It is a great place to have a picnic amidst the calm of the forest and the sound of gushing waters from the 66 feet high waterfall. The Jim Corbett Museum contains the belongings of Jim Corbett including rare photographs, antiques and letters. Situated in the middle of the jungle is Dhikala Forest Lodge which offers an opportunity to experience the forest like it was intended. A Jim Corbett tour is incomplete without visiting the lodge. For admiring great architecture and design, one should visit the Durga Mandir that showcases several Hindu deities. Birjani is another attraction that showcases the diverse vegetation of the park. It used to be the shooting block initially. There are several other tourist attractions that should be part of Jim Corbett packages like Jhirna, Kosi River, Sitabani Temple, as well as the different zones.
