In days of yore, the samurai country of Japan tried to conquer the world through warfare. Today it is conquering the world with its technology, super-efficient motor vehicles and through the hearts of all those who visit the beautiful country. This island nation has it all: deeply rooted cultural traditions, ancient shrines and temples, lovely gardens, beautiful mountain scenery, geishas and tea ceremonies, and modern fast-paced cities. A Japan holiday is incomplete without a tour of it vibrant and colourful cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Yokohama, Okinawa and others.
Average temperature and weather patterns vary enormously, and the best time to visit isn’t consistent across the country. Winter weather differs greatly, however, between the western Sea of Japan and the Pacific coasts, the former experiencing cold winds and heavy snow while the latter tends towards dry winter days. Despite frequent showers, spring is one of the best times to visit Japan, to watch the Cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Monsoon in Japan lasts from June to September and is very hot and humid. Autumn lasts from October to late November; this is Japan’s most spectacular season when the maple trees explode into a range of brilliant colours.
If you plan to visit Japan during its national holiday or New Year’s, make sure you book in advance. During this time there are a number of public holidays and locals take off from work. Transport and tourist sites can be extremely busy and crowded.
