If you’re a nature lover, one of the best things to do in Amritsar is to visit the Harike Wetland and Bird Sanctuary. Did you know that this is the largest wetland in north India and that it is man-made? It is a thriving ecosystem that supports seven species of turtles and the endangered Indus Dolphins. Apart from the marine life, you can also spot jackals, jungle cats and wild boars. But winter is when the real action happens.
Over 200 species of birds descend and make this their home for the winter season. Visit here in the evenings and stay at the Forest Rest House. Do note that you need to take prior permission from forest officials before entering the wetland.
