Undoubtedly, Salzburg is one of the most beautiful cities of Central Europe and is one of the top Austria tourist places. If you love baroque architecture, then you will definitely want to visit this town, especially as its Old Town is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Sound of Music was filmed here, and it was also the birthplace of musical genius Mozart.
Some of the places to see here include Fortress Hohensalzburg, which is considered to be one of the largest medieval castles in Europe and Mirabell Palace with its aesthetically pleasing geometrically arranged gardens.
Other famed places to visit here include Schloss Hellbrunn, a Baroque palace, and the domed Salzburg Cathedral. In the Old Town, there’s also the Getreidegasse, a bustling shopping street which is also known as the birthplace of Mozart. At No.9 where he lived, there now stands a house museum with tours detailing his life in Salzburg. Not too far from the city is Salzkammergut, a region with lakes and Alpine ranges featuring natural ice formations in an Ice Cave on Dachstein Mountain.
