The Gothic Quarter of Barcelona is one of the oldest parts of the city and one of the most interesting places to visit in Barcelona. Till date, you can find some remnants of Roman and medieval structures that once existed here. The area consists of many tiny, winding streets that open up to a large public square, and the best way to see it is to simply wander and lose yourself in the area. You can even witness one of Antoni Gaudi’s first projects – he was enlisted to design the street lamps of Plaça Reial soon after graduating from university. They may seem largely unremarkable in comparison to his other works, but it gives you deep insight into his humble beginnings.
