The Jantar Mantar is one of the most popular New Delhi tourist places and a testament to ancient India’s astronomical knowhow. This observatory was built in 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur and is one of the five such built all around India. You cannot help but feel a sense of being overawed by the giant astronomical instruments which are wonders of construction just by themselves. They would be used to track and predict the moments of the sun, moon and planets in the days when there were no telescopes. It is one of the quirkiest places to go in Delhi.
