The coastal town of Kanyakumari is on the southern most tip of the country. The town was known as Cape Comorin when the British ruled and there are various reasons why it is one of the top tourist places in Tamil Nadu. Not only is it the only place in India where you can see the sun rise and set in the same spot, it is also home to pilgrimage sites like Bagavathi Amman Temple and Our Lady of Ransom Church. One of the places to see here is the Vivekananda Rock Memorial which is on a tiny island off shore while the Thiruvalluvar Statue, the Tsunami Monument and the Gandhi Mandapam also draw a huge number of visitors.
