The Abu Dhabi film festival celebrated the city’s love for cinema before it was officially shut down in 2015. But the festive spirit of Abu Dhabi is truly alive and kicking. Here are some festivals that you can participate in during your trip.
Presented by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival is the second of six standalone open water swimming festivals that take place around October. Participants can choose to swim 1,600 metres to a distance of 200 metres, depending on skill levels. With Adult and Junior prizes being handed out, you must check if you or your children can participate. If you do not desire active participation, just be there to cheer the participants.
Held around August every year, the Abu Dhabi sports festival encourages active participation with an aim to provide a platform for sports fans and players. The Sheikh Zayed Sports City’s indoor pavilion hosts various recreational, professional or fitness activities. For a small fee, you and your family can join in and enjoy a game. The festival even has a ladies-only night. So, if soccer or basketball is your thing, kick off the heels go forth and play!
For food lovers and budding gourmets, there is the Abu Dhabi food festival which celebrates food and a true gourmand’s love for food. Featuring the world’s best flavours, it is a dazzling showcase of culinary art by the region’s most celebrated chefs. The food festival in Abu Dhabi is brought to you by the emirate’s Department of Culture and Tourism. It is celebrated throughout the city and has over 100 restaurants participating in the festivities.
