Amsterdam offers everything you would expect from a bustling, cosmopolitan city – the right balance of tradition and modernity, of international influence and local tradition. This duality reflects in every part of the city from its art to its cuisine; Amsterdam events are no exception, either. The capital city offers a wide range of events and festivals through the year for every type of traveller and every possible interest. These are a great way to immerse in local culture and experience, rather than observe, the city. Here are some of our recommendations!
When it comes to Amsterdam events, the Light Festival is a must-see. Taking place during the winter months, this festival sees the coming together of designers, artists and architects from around the world to create stunning light installations in the city centre. We recommend observing this one at night, to get the true impact and effect of the light artworks.
You may have heard of Amsterdam’s beautiful blooming flowers. Tulip Day is an Amsterdam festival in ode to the city’s most famous flowers: tulips. It takes place in Dam Square, where a huge garden is built by local growers and houses almost two hundred thousand tulips of all types and colours. You can pick a free bouquet or simply wander around and soak in the beauty. Either way, it’s a unique experience.
