Absolutely free of human habitation and plant life, Barren Island’s claim to fame is that it contains the only confirmed active volcano in South East Asia. In fact, the volcano’s latest eruption occurred in 2017, making headlines around the world. As there are no humans to pose a threat, Barren Island is home to some unique animal species too. A boat ride to look at this Havelock Island tourist place and Barren Island’s smoking volcano, or a seaplane ride to enjoy an aerial view, is one of the biggest attractions of an Andamans holiday. Tourists can visit the island only in chartered boats, with the permission of the Forest Department.
