Due to the EU agreement, Euro is the accepted currency in Italy and most other European countries. You would need to take note of the currency exchange rates while converting your Indian Rupees to Euros. You have the option of exchanging the same either at your bank or you authorised agency or at the airports. Just keep in mind the conversion rates would vary as there may be additional taxes to this service.
If you want you can also carry traveller’s cheques on your Italy trip as they can be exchanged in most prominent banks. Another option is to use your credit cards as they are largely accepted in restaurants, nightclubs, and shops. However, smaller shops and street vendors always prefer transactions in cash and it better to carry smaller denominations.
Also, if you’re carrying a credit card, it is better to notify your bank that you will be using it during your trip Italy, and get an idea about the international transaction fees that may be levied.
