Two of the major and famous festivals celebrated here are Ugadi and Onam. Onam tends to fall between August and September and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor. The most popular activity during this festival is the snake boat race. It witnesses a huge number of participation. Ugadi is celebrated by Hindus. It marks the onset of the New Year. During this time, locals decorate their homes with garlands. While the Christians here in Kumarakom celebrate Christmas and Easter. Muslims celebrate Bakri Eid and Ramadan.
