Weather Conditions in Milan
If you’ve planned a trip to Milan, then you’ll definitely want to know what to expect from there. The city is full of cultural and historical monuments that go back centuries and will leave you dazzled. But apart from that, Milan is also the fashion capital of Italy with the bi-annual Fashion Week that takes place with unfailing regularity.
So, what is the best time to visit Milan? It entirely depends on the reason you’re visiting the city. Nevertheless, if you’re a tourist who would like to explore whatever Milan has on offer, here’s a season-wise look at what you can expect from the city.
The sun comes out and showers its rays on the city during spring. Milan becomes even more beautiful if that were possible. Flowers are in bloom in the gardens and the countryside comes alive. The sunlight is not too harsh, and everything seems to take on a glow but there can be occasional rains as well. In April, the Milan Design Week takes place, an annual event that focuses on design and furniture. Although it might sound functional, this is a must visit event for many people and with the moderate temperature, it could be the best time to travel to Milan.
Milan can get quite hot and humid in the summer months and most Milanese will try and escape the city in droves as well to avoid the weather. While the nearby mountains, lakes and seaside towns might get an influx of visitors, Milan does tend to get a bit deserted in peak summer. In early summer, when the heat hasn’t yet hit the city in full force, there’s the men’s fashion week in June along with several other events and concerts that are held throughout the city, some of them in the famed San Siro Stadium.
Milan wakes up from the summer slumber and comes to life once more as the weather becomes more manageable, although the days can still be a bit balmy, but many consider it to be the best time to go to Milan. But the women’s fashion week for spring/summer at this time compensates for everything else and it’s also the time when galleries and museums begin to organise new exhibitions. People also tend to rush here during Autumn if they want to catch the Italian Grand Prix that takes place in a small city not too far from Milan.
During winter, Milan acquires a shrouded and mysterious air thanks to the mist that surrounds it. But in December, the new opera season begins while January and February see the men’s and women’s fashion weeks for fall/winter, adding to the allure of the city. Christmas markets around Duomo and Sforza Castle add to the sense of festivities in the city.
