Weather Conditions in Punjab
With its hearty food and joyous people, there’s a sense of home and belonging about Punjab that is evident even to the outsiders. It could probably be because of how Bollywood tends to romanticise the image of the mustard fields and the lion-hearted nature of the Punjabis. But a visit to this north Indian state does make you feel that you are in the midst of friends and family. However, you want to make sure that you know the best time to visit Punjab so you can have the best experience. Here’s what Punjab is like during the various seasons it experiences.
Summer in Punjab lasts from April to June. It can get quite hot with temperatures reaching as high as 45 °C. As a result, it is not wise to travel to Punjab during this time. However, at the beginning of summer, in April, you might be able to enjoy Baisakhi which is a great festival indeed.
Monsoon lasts from July till September. The rains bring a blessed relief from the harsh heat of the summer. But it still tends to get hot and humid. There are heavy rains in the regions near the Himalayas. While outdoor activities can get difficult, Punjab does turn lush and green during this month.
Winters last from October to March and can easily be said to be the best time to visit Punjab. Since summers are blistering hot and monsoon can be wet and humid, winters are reasonably more comfortable for travel. However, as deep winter sets in, temperatures can go down as low as 0 degrees at night. Winter is also the time of festivals such as Lohri.
