The Pushkar Fair is the largest cattle trade fair in all of Asia, held annually in November. It not only draws hundreds of traders and animals but thousands of more people locally and tourists are visiting especially to witness the event. This is no doubt one of the best events in Pushkar, but it’s quite special even in a global context. Simply because it’s so unique, full of life and colour, and thoroughly welcoming. The festival itself takes place right by the holy lake, making it a hotbed of culture and activity.
You’ll see plenty of animals shifting hands, from camels to cows. Perhaps the most enlightening part of this would be witnessing a bargain first-hand! Meanwhile, there are so many activities put up, whether it be contests or performances. These include some of the more unique occurrences in the world such as a camel beauty competition, camel parade and the longest moustache contest. Other than this Pushkar festival, there’s nowhere you could have such experiences.
Another of the really popular things to do during Pushkar Mela is go shopping. Such a huge gathering sees plenty of traditional craft on display, so you have oodles to choose from be it clothes or jewellery. There’s really no better way to go about the Pushkar festival than soak it all in and take as many pictures as you possibly can.
