Weather Conditions in Rome
Rome is eternal and many people feel that there isn’t really a best time to visit Rome. You can come here at any time of the year, but some places are better in certain seasons and you can experience the splendour of Rome to its fullest. Here’s a season-wise look at which is the best time to go to Rome.
Rome is lush during this time of the year. The weather is often blustery cold or toasty warm and sometimes even a combination of the two. There are flowers everywhere and gorgeous blue skies. It’s no wonder then that people can be seen crowding all the tourist spots. Also, with Easter happening, there are plenty of religious festivities taking place, adding to the vibe of the city. If you don’t mind the crowds, jump right in! It could well be the best time to visit Rome.
Come July and August, and the city swelters and it’s not exactly the best place for those who are averse to heat. Despite the rising temperatures, there’s some relief to be found in the many parks in Rome, which are leafy and offer plenty of shade. If you prefer, you can wander around the many museums and art galleries which are air conditioned, or even walk into one of the numerous churches which are dark and cool.
Since autumn marks the beginning of rainfall in the city, crowds begin to thin out although there are still sunshiny days left over to enjoy. If you don’t mind the damp, then do head over as this could be the best time to travel to Rome especially if you want to avoid the crowds. Also, the airfares are lower and even hotel prices are down. But what should cinch it for you is that there are local food festivals where you can enjoy delicious food, antique markets and even a film festival that takes place at this time of the year.
In winter, Rome can get quite cold but that’s not always a given. What’s amazing is that there are barely any crowds, even in places like the Sistine Chapel which is normally packed with tourists during high season. Tickets for some other places such as the Galleria Borghese can be booked on the same day, unlike in peak season when they have to be booked well in advance.
