To apply for a visa, you would first need to decide as to which country you plan to visit first and apply the same from the consulate. Indian passport holders need to apply for a visa beforehand before they decide to visit the country. Unlike, Schengen, you cannot see all of South America on a single visa. You will need to apply for the same at their respective consulates.
However, some of the countries like Ecuador, Bolivia, and Guyana have visa on arrival for Indian citizens. If you are applying for a visa for visiting Argentina or Brazil, you will need to send in your applications at least a month in advance. Make sure all your documentation is in place. Letters need to be in Spanish as well notarized in English, if you are applying for a visa for visiting Argentina.
You may also be called personally to the embassy during your visa process.
It is better to get your visa needs sorted out through well known travel services provider so that all your process is streamlined.
