Srinagar does not have a train station of its own and the nearest towns linked through rail are Jammu Tawi and Udhampur. You can take a train up to these stations and then take a taxi or board a bus from there to reach Srinagar. Connectivity by road is excellent and scheduled bus services are operational from Delhi, Chandigarh, Haridwar, Dehradun and few other cities. However, this option is generally suggested for those who are planning for a long Kashmir holiday. If you are looking for a self-drive option from Delhi or nearby areas, you have to keep in mind that the accessibility by road is only from April to November by Srinagar-Leh highway and Manali-Leh highway, as during the winter months, the roads are covered in snow and are, therefore, closed.
Srinagar, being the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Srinagar airport (Sheikh ul Alam Airport) is well connected to the major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Bangalore through direct flights. A number of domestic players have also started operating connecting flights from smaller cities to Srinagar via these major cities. A majority of Srinagar tour packages include flight booking to and from Srinagar. If you are hard pressed for time and are wondering about how to reach Srinagar, then air travel is undoubtedly the best option for you.
