It would be a grave oversight to not mention the famed Tirupati Laddu while talking about the food in Tirupati. Known the world over as the famous laddu from Tirupati, the tasty sweet is offered as prasadam to devotees after the darshan in the Sri Venkateshwara Temple. The laddu is prepared in the temple kitchen and even has a Geographical Indication tag which means that it can be made and sold only by Tirupati temples.
The tradition of offering laddus to devotees began in 1715 and continues even till today. The kitchen where the laddu is prepared is equipped with conveyor belts and other modern conveniences which help ensure that around 1.5 lakh laddus can be made easily every day. But the kitchen has the capacity to make 8 lakh laddus a day if the occasion calls for it. There are nearly 200 cooks who work in the kitchens to prepare these laddus.
If you are making plans to visit Tirupati soon, then do make it a point to check the SOTC website for offers and deals on holiday packages.
