Weather Conditions in Zurich
In the heart of Switzerland lies one of its most vibrant cities. Zürich is a treat for travellers seeking a variety of pleasures. There’s culture, sightseeing, celebrations and nature, all in the most immaculate urban setting. And there’s plenty to keep you entertained all year-round. Have a look at the city’s weather details and at some of the highlighted experiences, to help you decide the best time to travel to Zurich.
Summer and winter are popular times to visit Zurich.
In winters, the country is beset with cold and the higher Alpine regions are completely dressed in snow. But that’s exactly why this could be the best time to go to Zurich — if you’re really into winter sports or a white Christmas. You can easily make your way to nearby ski destinations to hit the slopes or partake in the celebratory toboggan. Or you could opt for some great city experiences like festive markets, candle dipping, the Conelli Christmas Circus, ice skating rinks and sunset fondue sessions. If you’re travelling with young ones, this could be the best time to visit Zurich.
Summers are popular for an entirely different Zurich experience. From June to the end of September is peak tourist season, with travellers from around the world joining locals in appreciating the city under warm, sunny skies. Not even the customary sudden showers can stop the enjoyment. Expect crowds as you take in highlight experiences like the Street Parade, outdoor activities like swimming at Flussbad or grooving at the Zurich Openair music festival, and a lot of lakeside fun from canoeing to stand-up paddling. Not to mention the many al fresco bars and waterfront restaurants opened for you to make up all of that energy you spend in the day.
While these aren’t seen as the best time to visit Zurich from a tourism activity point of view, there’s great advantages of planning your trip during these seasons. While the autumnal winds turn greens to browns, they also carry a mist that then settles over the lake. But along with great off-season prices, you’ll get to experience hiking or mushroom picking, attend screenings at the Zurich Film Festival or sign up for wine tastings.
Similarly, spring is shoulder season yet with a charm of its own. And all of those outdoor activities just start to reappear, so you can catch them before peak summer!
