The Russian Ruble is the currency in Russia and it is best to carry them along with you to be able to purchase from both, big and small stores. If you’re carrying Dollars or Euros, you can exchange it in almost any corner in Russia, but this can be costly as the rates are quite competitive.
Legally, only the Russian Ruble is the accepted currency in the country. You can also carry traveller’s cheques as they can be exchanged in most prominent banks in Russia. Another option is to use your credit cards as they are largely accepted in restaurants, nightclubs, and shops. Also, if you’re carrying a credit card, it is better to notify your bank that you will be using it during your Russia trip or else many banks might block your card due to the increasing card fraud cases in the country.
