Russia is famous for many things – for hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2018, for housing stunning railway stations that a works of fine art in their own right and for producing some of the best vodka that the world has ever tasted. It is also strongly rooted in politics, economics, history, performing arts, fine arts and literature – Russian festivals and Russian events are a testament to this fact.

Famous festivals in Russia include the Maslenitsa Festival (in ode to the end of winter and the beginning of spring), the Reindeer Herder’s Festival (an iconic winter Russian festival featuring reindeer races and skiing), Moscow Golden Mask Festival (which pays homage to Russian theatre and drama), Victory Day (celebrating the win of the Soviet Union over Nazi rule) and the St Petersburg White Nights Festival (a celebration of the infamous “white nights” with top Russian performances in art, music and dance). Orthodox Christmas, taking place in the beginning of January, is truly a beautiful spectacle to experience as well.
