For a holiday to Guwahati, there are two things you need to keep in mind. Weather and festivals. The best time to visit Guwahati is when the weather is mild or when celebrations such as Bihu are taking place. Since the city has a humid subtropical climate, October to April is generally considered the best time to visit Guwahati. It’s still a good idea to know what to expect when you’re travelling there, so here’s a look at what the different seasons are like.
The best time to visit Guwahati is from October to March during winter. This is because the weather is pleasant and although it is a bit chilly, there are several events that take place at this time that make the trip worthwhile. There’s a Magh Bihu festival that takes place in January which is a wonderful time to enjoy the variety of delicacies. Remember to carry warm clothes and woollens and even an umbrella as it tends to rain sometimes.
Guwahati during the monsoon begins in July and continues till October. There is heavy rainfall during this time, and it is generally not considered the best time to visit Guwahati. Roads get clogged and the downpours are relentless.
Guwahati during the summers can be quite nice too. The temperatures are tolerable although the climate is a bit humid and it can get uncomfortable during the mornings. Summer evenings however are quite pleasant. If you do happen to visit Guwahati at this time, you will be able to enjoy the Bihu festival celebrations or even partake in the colourful Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple in June.
