Bihu is an important festival that is celebrated throughout Assam. There are three variations of this Guwahati festival which are celebrated at different times of the year. The Bohag Bihu in April is the Assamese New Year, the Kati Bihu is celebrated in October to protect the paddy crops that are maturing and the Magh Bihu is a harvest festival.
Celebrated in the month of April, this is a celebration where local artists can showcase their talents. At this time, there’s also the Ahar Mela which is a great place to sample different cuisines from all over the world.
This is an annual spring festival celebrated on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The three-day event is a cultural bonanza with dancing, water sports and various other activities.
