Bihu is an important festival that is celebrated throughout Assam. There are three variations of this Guwahati festival which are celebrated at different times of the year. The Bohag Bihu in April is the Assamese New Year, the Kati Bihu is celebrated in October to protect the paddy crops that are maturing and the Magh Bihu is a harvest festival.
